The Cadot Family History

The Cadot Family History was an oral presentation at the 20th Annual Lineage Banquet of the Gallia County Genealogical Society in October 2009. Barbara Cadot Keating prepared this talk. She used many resources including her family's oral history, Scioto County histories, Gallia County histories and even Sibley's French Five Hundred. She receives full credit for what is presented here. The sketches are taken from the WPA booklet Gallipolis.  (Due to a car accident, Barbara was unable to attend and the talk was delivered by Henny Evans.)

Interaction of settlers and Indians                French 500 leaving France

The Departure from France appears to be pictured in the
above illustration, which is the inset in the upper right of
the picture on the left, as envisioned by the ones reading a
newspaper from home. The depiction of the peaceful native
Americans would seem to be inaccurate because the native
Americans in the area were not especially friendly, although
the hostility of the Indians never became a big problem for
     these settlers.
